Container Gardening

**Get ready for a number of posts in the upcoming months to be about plants, plant season, vegetables, etc.! Being a Plant Man's wife is something special I tell ya!**

When Matt and I bought our house the first thing that came to mind was: "Where will we put our garden?" Funny thing to think of first to most people, but when your life is consumed by plants you have to know where you are going to put them!

1. The water spicket (sp) or the hosepipe as the Northerners say is on the backside of the house by the A/C unit. This is a problem because we would literally need a 100 foot hose to reach anything!

2. There are trees everywhere! Meaning very little sunlight to reach my tomatoes...who like sunlight! We have been studying the sun/shadows for the past couple of months and discussing where the best light is.

3. I have to do all of the cold crop/spring gardening by myself with guidance from Matt, Mom, and Chip! So the garden has to be something that I can handle myself!

So.....with these factors considered we are going to try a container garden this year. We are shooting to have 4 spots in the yard with plants in them. Whichever plants produce the best/most that spot will most likely become the home to our "Big" garden that Matt has already drawn up for Fall/Spring 2013!! I am excited about a contianer garden, but I hope I can produce a lot of vegetables! One day Matt and I plan to only have vegetables from our garden and not rely on the grocery store for things like tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, herbs, etc.!

Those are just some pictures of what we are thinking! I have also seen some gardens in those plastic kiddy pools! That would be cool, but I don't want to complete kill my grass!! I hope you are all working on your garden plans as well! It is almost time for the Cold Crops!

Becca Turns 1!!!!

On her way home from the hospital @ 3 days!!
Baby Becca, Melanie and Nathan's little girl and Matt's first "blood niece" (as he calls her) turned one on December 30th. Mel and Nathan had her a cute little cupcake themed birthday for her first birthday. We got to spend some time with the birthday girl and some of Mel and Nathan's friends!

Welcome Plant Season!!!!

***Disclaimer: Sorry for the lack of posting in January! I still have to cover Becca's Birthday and then I will be caught up. January handed us some curveballs, one which included a Paintball accident (eye) for Matt (He is thankfully almost 100% better) which meant January was spent in the Eye Doctors office or on the phone with the eye doctor! Also, we had some other "issues" arise that we did not see coming, so needless to say we are extremely glad that January is OV-A!!!! Hopefully that explains the lack of blogging! I hope to get to once a week in February!

So plant season has officially arrived. For those of you who don't know Matt work for Bonnie Plant Farm out of Union Springs, Alabama. The same company my Dad worked for and also my brother works for them as well! His route consists of Northern Tennessee and Middle/Southeast Kentucky! So February 1 has rolled around which mean Matt is off to Knoxville for work!
Most people don't know how we have this interesting relationship, but this is our 3rd time around! It does not get any easier. Love does not make the heart grow fonder, it makes the heart MAD. It sucks to go to weddings, showers, parties, etc. by yourself! I mean I am married, which means I should have a consitent date to every function I attend! All that ranting is just some of the emotions that are felt over the 6 months! There are a lot of tears, anger toward him for leaving, and just plain sadness he is not here for every day living! That being said I am extremely glad that Matt has a job that provides for our family, and that he gets to be off for all the major holidays and both of our birthdays, which is a HUGE plus!

So here's to another Plant Season beginning! Hoepfully the weather will continue to improve and the company can sell some plants this season! If you have a garden or want a garden, check out your local garden supply, Wal-Mart, Lowe's, Home Depot, or Co-Op to find Bonnnie Plants! They are also on Facebook: Search Bonnie Plants. This week the profile picture is of a Tomato Plant. They post daily about tips and tricks to gardening! They also have a wonderful website: http://www.bonnieplants.com/! Do you look up tutorials on YouTube? Well head on over to www.youtube.com/growbonnieplants to find helpful videos!!

Hope y'all enjoyed my little plug about Bonnie! Can you tell that I want a good plant season!?!?!?!!?

Matt, I love you so much and I am so thankful for all you do....Even if it means spending 6 months in 2 different states! Thanks for providing for me, Waylon and Jennings :) hahahaha....We love you!

Oh, also, Matt is going to try and blog about his experiences on the plant route. Once his blog is up and running I will add a link to it on my side bar!
